Upgrading to a higher level

Do I qualify for that upgrade now?
In evaluation:
  1. The Board lends equal weight to relevant academic qualifications achieved and relevant HR experience gained.
  2. Each case and qualification is assessed individually by the registration committee.
  3. The level of fragmentation of experience is taken into account.
  4. Promotions from within is considered.
  5. The type and size of employer organization(s) past and present (small, medium, corporate, global, government, parastatal, etc) and the applicant's position in that organisation also impacts on the registration committee’s decision.
  6. The reporting structure, breadth and width of experience are also evaluated.
To upgrade to a Master HR Practitioner (MHRP) registration level requires
An accredited masters or doctor's degree that is human resource specific. Please keep in mind that an MBA generally has roughly one third HR specific content and thus does not automatically qualify for the academic component of the MHRP registration. Each case and qualification is assessed individually by the registration committee.More than six years of practicing HR at the highest level. Practicing at a lower level for however many years will not qualify anyone for Master's status.
To upgrade to Chartered HR Practitioner (CHRP) level requires at least
  • An accredited Honours-level qualification (or equivalent accredited four years post-matric qualification) that is human resource specific and
  • More than four years of practicing HR at senior level.

To upgrade to the HR Practitioner (HRP) level requires

  • An accredited three year post matric qualification (such as a degree) that is HR specific.
  • At least three years of consistent HR experience at middle level in an organisation.

To upgrade to HR Associate (HRA) level requires

  • An accredited two year post matric qualification that is HR specific.
  • At least two years of consistent HR experience.
Upgrade Process to be followed
  1. Send SABPP a letter requesting upgrade and mention desired new level.
  2. Attach an updated CV with comprehensive detail of current job or attach an official current Job Description. Detailed information on key performance areas and achievements will be of great value in assessing the registration level.
  3. Attach certified copies of qualifications achieved since original registration.
  4. Attach the upgrade fee.
