Mentor Criteria

Criteria for becoming an SABPP approved mentor

  • Registered with the SABPP for approximately five years as either a Chartered or a Master HR Practitioner.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of HR
  • A strong interest in mentoring candidates for the profession
  • Commitment to professional standards of excellence
  • Employed in a senior decision making position.

The Mentor
  • agrees to the principles of the Mentor role as per the Guide to Candidateship;
  • undertakes to protect the profession by adhering to the minimum prescribed standards of competence and integrity;
  • gives access the personal particulars including telephone numbers of two registered senior colleagues who can be contacted for references.

The Board reserves the right to make additional enquiries as to the stature of the applicant.




Mentors function as a sounding board for strategic decisions made by the Board of the SABPP. They also Mentor HR Candidates registered with the Board.

Mentors are invited to participate in institutional audits and Board committees are often chaired by Mentors of the Board.
