SABPP Mentorship
Approved Mentors of the SABPP
Mentors act as custodians of the professional standards laid down by the Board. We have Mentors throughout the country and also in the surrounding countries and overseas. Some 150 senior practitioners are Approved Mentors of the Board.
Senior members of the profession, registered with the Board can be invited by the Board or nominated by peers (colleagues at senior level) to Mentorship status. An individual may also apply for Mentor status, but the onus will be on the aspiring Mentor to prove peer recognition at senior level.
A two-year candidateship under the guidance of approved Mentors of the Board can be set up by the Board for the beginner in HR who already has an HR related position and who has completed studies or is still studying towards HR qualifications. The Mentor will consider issues such as professionalism, standards of observed work results and functional Independence. Mentors also assist with the evaluation of applicants for professional registration and may be consulted on strategic direction for the Board.
Other functions performed by Mentors of the Board include professional interviews for registration purposes, participation in evaluation of programmes, participation on the email forum, promoting professional registration and representing SABPP on various bodies. Mentors can also be asked to participate in the disciplinary and appeals processes, contribute to the improvement of the HR unit standards or participate in projects of the Board.
